Community
McGrath North Lakes is spearheading several community initiatives to assist vulnerable members of our community.
We are leading the way in awareness education of Domestic Violence among property managers and leading practical solutions that are changing peoples’ lives.
SafeHome Alliance
The leading cause of homelessness among women and children is Domestic and Family Violence.
SafeHome is an alliance of people, organisations and businesses committed to supporting Domestic and Family Violence survivors in the rental market with practical, immediate help.
Founders Laura Valenti and David Clair – Principals of McGrath North Lakes – believe that the only way we can tackle this huge social problem is to work together.

The Priority Project
The Priority Project (TPP) involves the prioritisation of private rentals to provide appropriate housing for women who have experienced domestic and family violence in South East Queensland.
In association with Mission Australia, The Salvation Army and The REIQ, McGrath North Lakes is part of steering committee which developed the pilot, and is the champion real estate agency. Landlords place their properties on the register and offered to women and families impacted by domestic violence. These women are ready to move out of crisis accommodation and just need a little help to be prioritised when applying for a rental property.
McGrath North Lakes is an integral part of the pilot project and actively promoting it to other real estate agencies to grow the list of properties on the register so we can assist more families.

Housing Mentor Program
Sometimes tenancies fail due to circumstances beyond a tenant’s control, or they simply need some support. Created by inCommunity Housing and Homelessness organisation, this program allows us to identify vulnerable tenants and refer them to a case worker who supports the tenant with the intention to continue a successful tenancy.
McGrath North Lakes assisted inCommunity as the first real estate agency partner. After assisting several tenancies and saving them from eviction and homelessness, inCommunity

QShelter eLearning Webinar - Domestic and Family Violence and Tenancies
This is an online, interactive, self-paced course for real estate professionals who wish to improve their practice as it relates to domestic and family violence (DFV). The course invites learners to engage with interactive content and materials to consolidate and increase their understanding of DFV, apply this to improve outcomes for tenants impacted by domestic and family violence, and help participants better understand their unique role in responding to DFV as part of a whole-of-community response.
Laura was an integral part of the project – from obtaining government funding, to designing the course material, to promoting the course to the industry.

Hannah’s Sanctuary
A collaboration between Beyond DV and Small Steps 4 Hannah, this ambitious first-of-its-kind project provides secure rental accommodation for nine families who have survived Domestic Violence.
The homes are offered completely furnished so families can just move right in and concentrate on healing.
We are proud to be managing agents for this project and offer advice and assistance for the families to transition into the private rental market.

Christmas Hamper Drive
Back by popular demand!
For the second year in a row, with the help of our generous suppliers, we put together 48 hampers for some of our tenants and delivered them the week before Christmas.
Some are struggling financially; some have been challenged with health issues; and some are living with loss or loneliness. But all of them show resilience, a positive attitude, and sincere gratitude for our little gifts.
With thanks to our suppliers who donated so generously – MCC Plumbing, North Lakes & Surrounds Electrical, Complied Australia, Flooring Extra, Shark Plumbing, Capital Electrical, and Jim’s Mowing Sandgate.
